Star Wars Galaxies: Overview

Launched in 2003, Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) gives players the chance to live in the Star Wars universe and be the hero of their own Star Wars adventure, and features exciting adventures that lead them to legendary Star Wars locations including Jabba's Palace, the Ewok Village and the infamous Mos Eisley Cantina in a post destruction of the Death Star era.

Post-launch, SWG - a joint venture between Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts - underwent several changes, most notably the New Game Experience, a surprising and comprehensive redesign that left many players feeling alienated, angry and disappointed. Launched in 2005, the NGE redefined the game, for good or ill, as a more action oriented experience that the SWG team feels more closely replicates the feel of the films. Now, a new SWG design team is busy retuning what was wrought in the NGE, listening to the community, working hard to bring back veteran players and regain their trust.

The current version of the game incorporates many new facets, along with some familiar to the veteran players, along with content inspired by the classic trilogy, the prequel movies including Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith as well the many comics and books.

New players begin their adventure aboard the Millennium Falcon, helping Han Solo and Chewbacca fend off the notorious Jabba the Hutt. Along the way, they find opportunities to join with Star Wars characters on missions that take them across the galaxy.

Players can choose sides in the Galactic Civil War, playing as a Rebel fighting the Galactic Empire, defending it against the upstart Rebellion or choosing to stay out of it entirely, working for or against classic characters while exploring 10 fully realized Star Wars worlds, such as Tatooine, Naboo, and Endor. Players can also race speeder bikes, swoop bikes and landspeeders, or mount creatures like banthas and dewbacks, even engineering, raising and training their own pets and mounts. Players can also build their own home, open their own shops or cantinas or work with other players to establish their own cities.

In space, players can adventure through 11 space sectors filled with asteroid belts, dangerous nebula, enemy fighters and opportunistic pirates, while piloting dozens of different starships like the X-wing, TIE fighter and the Firespray made famous by Boba Fett, or multi-passenger ships like the YT-1300, the same model ship as Han Solo's famed Millennium Falcon.

Players can seek their fortune both in space or on the ground as a Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Jedi or choose from six other iconic Star Wars professions. At high levels, players can take on Heroic Encounters, facing the likes of Exar Kun, IG-88 and the Tusken King.
