What is your real name? Alexis Allen, but please call me Alex.
What is your official title/position? I'm the Lead Artist on Star Wars Galaxies.
How long have you been working on Star Wars Galaxies? Ever since I can remember... No, really about 4 years.
What do you enjoy most about your job on SWG, and why? I like to watch the evolution of the game and know that I had a hand in growing it. I also like to see all the Star Wars concept art that most people never see. Our partnership with LucasArts affords the capability of seeing the 'behind the scenes' work to a certain extent, and I think that's cool.
What types of things do you do in a typical day at work? I ride my bicycle to work most days because I really need the exercise. I eat breakfast while I go over my email. Then I might have a meeting with the other leads to discuss what art items we need in order to accomplish a certain design goal. I gather up those art requests and asses their order of importance and time consumption. I assign those art tasks to the art team, and include myself as much as possible. I work on some art tasks that vary from 3-D objects to new vehicles to icons and UI screens. I have lunch, usually at my desk. I look into and implement new tools or processes that make the artist's job easier and faster. I work on some art tasks some more. I take a break and play with a yo-yo and have a snack. I wrap up my work on my art tasks and check them in. I ride my bike home.
Who is your favorite Star Wars character and why? Darth Vader, he's so deep and has the best outfit.
What's your favorite video game of all time and why? I can only pick one? Well, I'm going to cheat and pick two. I love Half Life, both single and multiplayer. I don't know why that one seems so much better than all the others of its type, but to me it was just very engaging. I think the audio is what made it so creepy and memorable, the creatures were neat, and the alien planet was fun to bounce around on. My other favorite is Black and White 2. I just love creating cities and civilizations, nurturing, and growing them. I also love building armies, destroying enemies with them, and torturing my subjects. Black and White made that so easy and fun and less time consuming than other games of its type.
Outside of work, what do you like to do? Well, I don't watch a lot of TV or play a lot video games. My free time is taken up by hobbies, sports, volunteer work, and socializing. I like to work with leather to make costumes, belts, bracelets, motorcycle accessories, and armor for SCA fighting. I also fight with the SCA. I played professional women's football for the Austin team for several years and still continue to support that. When I have time I make my own home-grown garage video games. Nothing fancy, just small one level simple game play things, just for fun and to develop my digital portfolio. I volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol helping them spot wilderness fires and find lost hikers and stuff like that. I do have a social life too and often have dinner and parties with friends and my significant other.
